Enjoy the benefits of consistent, season long coaching sessions this winter. A staff of qualified instructors are back to share their technical expertise in three special Masters Programs. Enrollment in the 2012-2013 season Master Programs is open to all skiers, from beginners to experienced ski racers. Each program is designed to raise levels of skiing skills and enjoyment in both the classic (striding) and skating techniques. Courses are open to all participants 18 years and older. Video analysis is included in all programs. A valid Trail Pass is needed to participate in the Masters Classes.
Beginning Masters: Learn about Winter Fitness!
This program is for those who would like to start a long-term commitment to cross country skiing this winter. It's designed for skiers with limited cross country experience. Skill development will progress from basic balance and gliding drills to specific techniques used in uphill, flat and downhill terrain. Conditioning, choosing the right ski equipment, and waxing will be addressed in this class. The Beginning Masters program will meet every Tuesday or Saturday at 9:00 am (ready to ski) starting Tuesday, December 4th or Saturday, December 8th, 2012.
Advanced Masters: Get Honed!
This is the program for serious recreational racers to work on fine-tuning technique for increased efficiency and speed. Join other dedicated skiers for intensive weekly two-hour sessions to get race-ready or just look good out on the tracks. Previous experience in the Master program or "pretty good" technique in both skating and classic skiing on all terrain is required for participation at this level. Technique work and conditioning are the focus of this program. Meetings will be on Tuesdays starting December 4th, 2012 or Saturday, December 8th, 2012.
NEW CLASS: Thursday Workout Club!
Come ski with a group of fellow ski enthusiasts. This group will meet Thursday mornings and get a specific workout to inspire each other and improve fitness through interval training and speed work. Watch your skiing improve weekly. This is also a group for anybody who wants to maintain good fitness to bridge the seasons between fall and spring. Emailed workouts for the rest of the week will be provided. Once a month, we will have a time trial from the ski center to the pack station so you can track your progress. Meet your fitness goals for the winter, improve your health, and be social all at once with this group.
NEW CLASS: Off-Trail Crusing - An Intro to Lightweight XC Ski Touring
Want to improve your confidence and XC ski skills off-trail and "cruise the Lakes Basin"? Unleash your inner Powder Pig and discover all new terrain and trails at Tamarack this season, all while discovering the Lakes Basin you never knew existed off trail on your XC skis! Participants will learn how to navigate variable terrain and snow conditions, unlock the mystery of "powder pigging", and gain a deeper understanding of the white stuff, all while engaging in exploration, fun, and exercise! Skills will progress from basic, flat terrain XC touring, to uphill and downhill techniques, turns and an introduction to the basic telemark turn. This class is not meant for true beginner XC skiers - you'll need to bring a little game to roll with the pigs! Ideal gear is a metal-edged XC ski with scales and a heavier boot and step-in binding (NNN-BC) or light 3-pin leather-type boot. Adjustable poles with a powder basket are the most useful, or a more traditional pole with a big basket that is a bit shorter than your striding pole. Tamarack does not rent this type of equipment. Use your own gear or rent from Brian's XC Ski Shop or Mammoth Mountaineering Supply. We will be kicking and gliding many K's (kilometers) so class is not suitable for heavy plastic boots or telemark or AT gear.
